A home that hands you a few great things — and feels like the publication it is

Three problems, one redesign. The nav blurred Today and What's On. The home tried to be both a curated front page and a full feed. The density made every item a big photo card. The fix: 4 clear tabs + a settings gear, a genuinely lean curated Today, and a tiered card system — all carried in the v2 editorial treatment (warm paper, an accent-framed photo hero, confident sigils, one navy beat) so it reads like The Lineup, not a generic events app. Mode stays — quietly. Five things on screen, not two — and it reads like a publication, not a feed.

1Today is a front page, not a feed

One editor's pick, tonight's few, a light "also this weekend," the latest Weekend Lineup — then it ends. The comprehensive list lives in What's On. That single split is the core IA fix.

2The density fix is the images, not the text

Three tiers: one accent-framed featured photo, compact rows for the workhorse middle, text-only lines for the long tail. The serif stays full-size — we cut image bulk, never legibility.

3The v2 soul, carried (Stacy 6/14)

Warm paper + grain, the plum-framed photo hero, confident full-color sigils as brand texture, one navy editorial beat. The treatment is what makes it The Lineup — not more cards. Paper-led, one navy beat.

4The gear replaces the "You" tab

Top-right gear holds account, mode, switch-market, interests, text-size, advertise, legal. Frees the fifth slot — the bottom bar is now four clear destinations, not five with a junk drawer.

5Mode stays — quietly (mode-light, not cut)

The small "Local" chip rides in the app bar; the full Local/Visiting control lives in the gear. Home layout never depends on mode — it just ranks underneath. Visiting still does its anchor/distance work in What's On.

6Photoless = a confident sigil, never blank

Every row without a photo gets the full-color category sigil — an editorial mark, not a greyed-out "missing image" apology. And only the top card needs a hero photo, so there are far fewer empty slots to begin with.

The nav — five blurry tabs → four clear ones + a gear

The problem wasn't the tab style, it was the tab jobs: Today and What's On both read as "a list of events," and "You" was a catch-all drawer in prime nav real estate.
